One of the most incandescent franchises in all of professional football is without a doubt the Oakland Raiders. Based out of Oakland, CA, the Raiders are yet another modern AFL member that came into the NFL during the merger in 1970. As a member of the AFC West, the Raiders have been to 5 desirable Bowls, winning 3 of them. Let’s capture a closer ogle at the history of the Oakland Raiders.

Al Davis has owned the Raiders since 1972. Originally founded in Oakland, the team played there until Davis moved them to Los Angeles in 1982. Later, the team moved wait on to Oakland in 1995 and remains there to this day.

The football team has had the colors of silver and dusky since Davis was general manager of the team in 1963. He faded these colors originally because all TV’s were available in shaded and white only and these colors showed up better than others.

John anger became the head coach of the Raiders in 1969. He later guided the team to its first ever trim Bowl gain in 1976. infuriate stayed on as coach of the football team until 1979 when he left the team and the league, to go into TV broadcasting.

In 1982, Davis moved the team to Los Angeles, due in portion to the refusal of the city of Oakland to remodel the football stadium. In their first year in Los Angeles, the team went to the natty Bowl and won. That has been the last time the Raiders have won a clean Bowl. In 1995, the team moved wait on to the city of Oakland.

The fans of the Oakland Raiders are some of the rowdiest fans in all of professional football. They near early for tailgate parties dressed in silver and shadowy paint, masks and costumes. One of the more rowdy spots in the stadium is known as the “dark hole”. This piece of the stadium is definitely not for the feint of heart.

Hall of Fame

The Oakland Raiders have 18 fresh members in the pro football Hall of Fame. They include: Marcus Allen Fred Biletnikoff George Blanda Bob Brown Willie Brown Dave Casper Al Davis Eric Dickerson Mike Haynes Ted Hendricks James Lofton Howie Long Ronnie Lott John infuriate Ron Mix Jim Otto Art Shell Gene Upshaw

There have been many other essential players on the Raiders over the years including: Ray Guy Lyle Alzado Cliff Branch Bo Jackson Carl Weathers (later played Apollo Creed in “Rocky” movies) Jack Tatum Jerry Rice

The Raiders have been known as a franchise that has had more than its allotment of poor football drafts over the years. This, combined with the constant head coaching changes by Al Davis, has made winning sometimes difficult over the years. One of the more memorable draft day mistakes was the selection of afraid QB Todd Marinovich.

The Oakland Raiders have some of the storied rivalries among any NFL football team, with the fiercest being San Diego, Denver and Kansas City. Even when the Raiders are not as competitive, teams do not like playing them. That is one reason why the team will always remain as one of the more celebrated ones in the league.

Elementary Football Team Routines

February 4th, 2010 by elisabeth8265732

Handoff skills can secure yardage on the field and increase your overall success. Let’s look at a simple hand off between a quarterback and a running back to point out the fundamentals of this skill. The running back starts the hand off running towards the quarterback with his arms open creating a pocket for the quarterback to slide the football right into the running back’s chest. Once the quarterback has placed the ball in the pocket, or opening, the running back immediately clamps down on the ball protecting it and holding on to it. As the running back leaves from the handoff he needs to stay low to react quickly and again to protect the ball.

Catching the ball low

Good receivers and even running backs know how to make the great plays. This means that quarterbacks, running backs, receivers, etc have gone through the motions several times and know how to react to situations on the field. One situation that happens a lot in a game is catching the low passes. Here are some secrets to making this catch. First keep the pinkies together down low to make a shovel. This ensures that the ball will not slip through your fingers. Locking your pinkies prevents the football from falling through your hands. Second, bend your knees and get low. Remember, the cardinal rule of catching is to use your hands and not your body. Always watch the ball through from the first time you see it in the air until it is in a secure ball carrying position. And always see the ball through, meaning that you are watching it into the tuck.

Water on and off the field

Dehydration should never appear on the football field if both the players and coaches have good habits. Every player should have a water bottle close so that they can take quick water breaks or at least a swallow here and there. Water should never be used as a motivational or reward type basis. These safe practices will help keep players energized and healthy.

Building your muscles and endurance through Weightlifting

No practice regime would be complete without lifting weights. The benefits of lifting weights are found in added strength, but more importantly it will increase your maximum power. Maximum power differs in importance to strength due to the fact that it is exertion during play and not just muscle mass. It is the quickness and exertion that will enable a football player to accomplish their plays with skill on the field. As you continue in your weightlifting program, we highly recommend that you get a personal coach to push you in your goals, teach you proper techniques, and ensure that you are doing the right work for your position.

Taiwan Sports Recreation

February 3rd, 2010 by elisabeth8265732

There was a sudden growth in Taiwan sports recreation and group activities were and are especially common. A spacious number of teams were created to compete against each other, often organised by schools, local companies and government offices. Basketball and softball in particular have become extremely celebrated, though soccer and baseball have only had puny rob up so far. These last two team games are become a well followed sport at international level, although there is a relative lack of engage up in playing at a national level.

Taiwan sports recreation has also seen a ample retract up or racquet and bat sports, with tennis, badminton, and table tennis being especially approved. Water has also played an valuable role in Taiwan sports recreation growth, and are the most common sports activities. Swimming and diving in particular have proved to be favorite in the sea and in swimming pools. Weekends explore the seas and lakes of Taiwan packed as people relax by windsurfing, yachting, canoeing, fishing and paragliding.

Fishing is one of the biggest growing sports activities in Taiwan, although golf is taking over in popularity. World class golf courses are increasingly appearing across the island, and the best clubs have a long waiting list of those wishing to join. Taiwan has invested a lot of money in all of its recreational facilities; this is distinct in the overall quality of the golf courses and golf clubs.

Taiwan sports recreation is also taken up with more strenuous activities as hiking and mountain climbing. It appears that the Taiwanese in their leisure time like nothing more than hiking up the country’s mountains. Taiwan is relatively celebrated for its hills and mountains and thousands leave the cities each weekend to lift in the landscape and try trekking up the slopes.

Taiwan sports recreation is a growing pastime amongst the Taiwanese who accept themselves with more spare time than they ever had before. As a result there has been a growth in the provision of equipment and supplies to feed the activities. In 1937, the WB, capitalizing on Errol Flynn’s spectacular performances in CAPTAIN BLOOD and THE CHARGE OF THE LIGHT BRIGADE, cast him in four films, with varying degrees of success. The best, by far, was William Keighley and William Dieterle’s production of the Mark Twain classic, THE PRINCE AND THE PAUPER, where he supported new WB ‘discoveries’ Billy and Bobby Mauch, portraying London urchin Tom Canty and his look-alike, Prince Edward Tudor. The twins were gifted, young (12 at the time of the filming) actors, with a Freddie Bartholomew-like quality of engaging innocence, and they gave this version of the oft-filmed tale a sense of reality that split-screen performances by a single actor could never achieve.

The story is an engaging one, as young Canty, inspired by his mother and a local priest to dream of a finer life than his father, an ill-tempered beggar (Barton MacLane) could provide, sneaks onto the grounds of Buckingham Palace. There, he meets young Prince Edward, who is thrilled to meet a boy his own age…and, after cleaning him up a bit, is astonished to discover that the pair could pass as twins. Edward decides this is a golden opportunity to see what life outside the Palace is really like, so, against Canty’s misgivings, the two exchange clothing, and the Prince leaves…creating far more of an uproar than either boy could ever imagine!

Canty is soon considered ‘mad’, as he insists he is not Edward, and the Prince, abused and ridiculed by Tom’s father, is unceremoniously thrown off the Palace grounds when he attempts to return, by a disbelieving Captain of the Guards (Alan Hale, in the first of 12 films he’d make with his friend, Errol Flynn). The ambitious Earl of Hertford (the always brilliant Claude Rains) investigates Canty’s claim, and realizes, after interviewing the Captain, that the boy is telling the truth, giving him a golden opportunity to seize power. Ordering the Captain to find and kill the Prince, the Earl then threatens to kill Canty if he doesn’t obey his commands.

Things grow desperate for the young Prince, as he attempts to evade his murderous ‘father’ on the streets, until Miles Hendon (Flynn), a roguish but good-natured ’soldier-for-hire’ comes to his aid. Offering his protection to the lad, Hendon thinks him a bit balmy, as well…until events (the child’s obvious despair over the death of Henry VIII, the Palace search party, and a sword duel with the Captain, where Flynn KILLS Alan Hale!!!) convince him otherwise. Then it becomes a race against time to smuggle the real King into the Coronation, before Canty is crowned, and the Earl assumes “the Power behind the Throne”.

Blessed with a gifted cast, including wonderful character actor Montagu Love as the dying Henry VIII, the film offers a truly exceptional film score by Erich Wolfgang Korngold (who would eventually expand the theme into a symphonic work). Audiences have always been surprised that Errol Flynn’s role is not larger, but as a faithful Twain adaptation, the focus had to be on the two boys, and not on the impoverished soldier. Flynn had fun playing Hendon, and the Mauch twins were nothing less than superb as the leads.

With THE ADVENTURES OF ROBIN HOOD less than a year away, and Errol Flynn’s star continuing to ascend, the WB had every reason to celebrate, and THE PRINCE AND THE PAUPER is a pleasure to watch, to this day!

The Prince & The Pauper is based on the much loved Mark Twain classic. In a nutshell, the plot centers around twins, one the spoiled heir to the English throne, a other a begger with a heart of gold. When the two accidentally cross paths they become best friends and secretly trade places, much to the chagrin of one of the king’s advisors (Claude Rains) who is plotting to kill the heir and take over himself. Enter into this fray a fortune hunter (Errol Flynn) who vows to set everything right for king, country and a healthy financial reward. It all ends pleasantly enough in a sword and swashbuckling sort of way.
WARNER HOME VIDEO gives us a handsome looking transfer that is sure to please. The gray scale has been impeccibly balanced with solid blacks and very nice renderings of fine detail. Certain scenes exhibit a touch of edge enhancement and a hint of pixelization, but nothing that will distract from this visually stunning film adaptation. The sound elements are somewhat disappointing by contrast. The main title sequence in particular sounds as though the music track was discovered under a rock. Nevertheless, dialogue – for the most part – is presented at an adequate listening level with only the slightest of pops, scratches and hiss.
EXTRAS: An essay and theatrical trailer – BIG DEAL!
BOTTOM LINE: The Prince & The Pauper is a visually stunning movie that, although straying somewhat from Twain’s original intent, is nevertheless faithful enough to remind us why his name continues to be among America’s greatest literary talents. The transfer is solid. I recommend this DVD!

Widely regarded as one of the best superhero sequels ever, director Richard Lester’s ‘Superman II’ had the daunting task of living up to the legacy of the original film, despite having major restrictions placed on it. For instance, Marlon Brando and Gene Hackman were not available for additional scenes, thus much of the film had to be re-cut and Brando had to be removed entirely for legal reasons. Lester had to incorporate footage shot by original director Richard Donner with newly shot scenes, while keeping the tone of the sequel consistent. The end result is a sequel that’s almost every bit as good as the film that spawned it. Christopher Reeve even said that this was his favorite of the Superman movies.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Superman II! Click Here

In recent years, the revelation of all the behind-the-scenes drama of Donner’s dismissal from the franchise has unfairly placed Lester’s version in a negative light. Some fans even went as far as to state that the new Superman II-The Richard Donner Cut was the definitive sequel before even having seen it! While which ‘Superman II’ is superior remains subjective, the simple fact is that the Donner Cut is a close approximation of his original vision rather than a fully realized film, since he had only shot around 70% of the footage. The rest was spliced together from screen tests, new shots using body and voice doubles, and footage from Lester’s version. This is not unlike what Richard Lester had to do to finish his sequel. Thus, both films can and must co-exist since there are shared footage and scenes unique to each version that simply work better. For instance, terrorists hijacking the Eiffel Tower is simply more of a job for Superman than Lois jumping out a window. Consequently, Donner’s Brando footage better illustrates the father/son motif established in the first film than Lester’s re-shoots with Superman’s mother.

As for the extras in this re-release, WB has compiled an impressive array of rarely seen material. There is a commentary by the producers, a 1981 ‘making of’ special hosted by Chris Reeve, 8 Fleischer Studios Superman cartoons plus a retrospective, deleted scenes, and perhaps the most eclectic…the ‘Superman 50th Anniversary’ TV Special. Produced in 1988 by the ‘Saturday Night Live’ crew, this special was widely panned originally but had since become a hot commodity on the bootlegging scene. With appearances by classic Superman and SNL alumni, this special can be better appreciated now in hindsight for its quirky blend of comedy and nostalgia.

In closing, despite its shortcomings, ‘Superman II’ set forth a benchmark in the superhero film genre by showing how a sequel can take off the “kid gloves” and come out swinging once the exposition is firmly established in the original. Knowledge of the off-set controversy should only enhance our appreciation of the final film the cast and crew put together because it really is a classic sequel.

I was disappointed when I bought this version, when I recorded the Superman 2 version on ABC way back in the late 80’s. VHS tapes don’t last, so I wanted the UNCUT version of Superman 2 on DVD. I wasted my money.

Vital scenes are cut from the DVD:

1) Superman saves the boy at Niagra Falls. He goes back to the hot dog stand and meet up with Lois, changes back to Clark Kent and walks away from the hot dog stand with a proud and humourous smile on his face (knowing that he saved the boy).

2) Flying to Paris…..and it shows him passing the Concorde in the sky.

3) A prison scene with Lex and Otis, about Otis going “pssh”, which Otis mentions he had wished before they left the cell, even though it means something else. Funny scene.

4) Miss Teschmacher needed to go to the bathroom at the Fortress of Solitude, where she says she thinks she found it. And Lex says, “she found it.”

5) And finally, the ending where Superman defeats the 3 supervillains, Lex shows more interest in befriending Superman (which he doesn’t), the cops show up at the Fortress to arrest Lex, and Superman destroys the Fortress Of Solitude.

There’s more from the ABC version, but too difficult to explain.

Just to say, the Lester cut wasn’t worth the price! I don’t know about the Donner version, but the DVD creators destroyed this movie….and who knew a TV version would be so much better!

These four episodes continue the excellent script/casts, which makes Death Note one of my favorite anime movies/series of all time (others include Cowboy Bebop, Witch Hunter Robin, Ninja Scroll, Ghost in the Shell). Light Yagami continues his role as the 2nd L in charge of the Japanese Task Force investigation. He continues to manipulate the police force investigation and at the same time carries out his plan as Kira. He does this by enlisting a very capable prosecutor, Teru, to carry out Kira’s will. In addition Light has to continue to deal with Near, the true L successor and Mello, Near’s lifelong competitor.

I was excited that all the reviews say that the DVD included the extras from The Graduate (40th Anniversary Collector’s Edition)

The DVD that came with my Bluray however did not. The version that came with mine was the 2005 MGM DVD release that only includes the trailer and 4:3 (not 16:9) letter-boxed version of the film. The Graduate

It seems Fox is just throwing in whatever DVD copies they have on hand so while some people are getting the 40th Anniversary DVD not all copies include that version.

Admittedly the packaging doesn’t say that any of the DVDs extras are included but it’s still disappointing when you read in reviews that they are included only to find that they are not in the copy you get. It’s a weak move on Fox’s part to include the DVD with extras in some copies and not in others.

I contacted Fox about this and they aren’t willing to do anything about it.

So buyer beware NOT ALL COPIES INCLUDE THE DVD EXTRAS and there is no way to tell whether or not it does without opening it.

I love this movie, always loved it, even in Lo-Def or No Def.

Is Anne Bancroft hotter in HD/Blu-Ray? Is mad man Dustin Hoffman’s insane screaming, “Eeeeellllaaaaine!” at the top of his lungs as Katherine Ross stands at the alter about to say “I do,” more riveting and dramatic in Hi-Def?

Very possibly.

I don’t know, honestly. This movie is so fabulous everytime I watch it though- Bancroft’s Mrs. Robinson is the consumate cougar, and her performance is iconic. And she IS hot, as well as deliciously, stalkerishly creepy in this role! You don’t need high def to appreciate that.

Dustin Hoffman’s portrayal of the confused and obsessed Benjamin Braddock is pitch perfect. This story never gets old, it’s classic, timeless, and set to a sweet Simon & Garfunkel soundtrack.

If you’re replacing your collection with blu-ray, or if your looking for something to round out a “buy one-get one” deal, get this. It’s an important movie, whatever definition you’ve got.

Like a lot of the other reviewers, I’m a big fan of Asian horror of all kinds–I had overlooked this modest little film until now, but it was reasonably entertaining and, despite the occasional silliness, has a cohesive plot and some good effects. (There’s a very brief moment when the shadow of a passing coffin falls over a young woman’s face, which then contorts into the most terrifying expression I’ve ever seen. I don’t know if it was CGI or not, but it’s *really* creepy.)

Buy,Download, Or Stream The Maid! Click Here

It’s not exactly non-stop terror and the young heroine’s cluelessness occasionally gets irritating, but I still found it preferable to some of the earlier j- and k-horror movies that suffer from disjointed plots and ridiculous inconsistencies. Stylistically, it’s much closer to the Pang brothers’ Eye movies.

This is a film that was produced in Singapore, where my inital thought, that this film just wanted to capitalise on the current unstoppable flow of horror films that seem to follow from the asian countries. Add to that a title that seems even more tacky… I wasn’t expecting much… But i was indeed in for a shock…..

Buy,Download, Or Stream The Maid! Click Here

The Maid; like it’s title, is a tale that is centered around a domestic helper, aged 18, who has travelled to the Philippines to Singapore, in hope to earn money so as to provide a better life for her family back home. Situation is such that money is urgently required to save her ill brother back home.

She is employed by an elderly couple, Mr and Mrs Teo who have a mentally-handicapped son Ah Soon. The relationship between all of them is good, and all seems to go well.

In chinese mythology, the 7th month of the Lunar Calendar is widely considered the Hungry Ghost festival – when the gates of hell swing open and for 30 days, the dead walk among the living. There are some rules during these months that are praticsed during these months amoung most… of which include – not to turn your head when some1 taps or calls your name over the shoulder… Lot of other rules are also mentioned, and most of these have been brushed off as Old wives tale…

The maid (Alessandra De Rossi) brushes them off, and unfortuantely, she gets entangled into the ghostly world….

The acting is decent, with my hat going out to Alessandra De Rossi who makes her performance very believable. But what makes this movie a regular scarefest is the fact that the director is trying too hard to scare us that the scares all seem too rehearshed. This film has a very decent premise, and the acting an’t too bad… But i would suggest a rental for all those interested, before committing a purchase, as this is a film for only the acquired taste.

Dvd wise, Tartan issues the regular stuff-along with Mandarin Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS 5.1 Surround tracks with a few trailers of it’s upcoming movie selections – English subtitles will be available….

******** I have just recieved word that the dvd presentation has a very serious problem with it. For some reason Tartan has tried to stretch what appears to be a 1.85:1 ratio into about a 2.35:1. Also the image is non-anamorphic. For this alone…. i suggest you skip the release!!!

Here where i live, most of the leagues does not allows composite bats, because of it’s high perfomance (getting dangerous sometimes), and the wide range of ages of the players. You have to have an aluminum option in a fading market (today it’s very hard to find one of thoses), i think that the easton reflex is the best option available in this situation; Louisville with it’s TPS brand actually has not all the options in aluminum bat that they used to had. and for all of this i think that the easton reflex is definitely a great buying option.

Wrote by a 26 years old guy, but a 21 years old ball player.

Hope will work for you people

we bought this bat for co ed slow pitch softball and its awesome :) our team loves it. highly recommend it

We have the WA-1220M model of this product (virtually identical). If you stand right in front on it, up to about 5 feet away, it’s nice. However, it has several drawbacks:

1. It isn’t very good at drying the air; evaporation is needed for effective air-conditioning (whether in your car or your home).

2. It must be drained of the water it does pull from the air, and draining the unit is very cumbersome. It comes with a small flexible plastic tube that has to be connected to the rear bottom of the unit; the other end must be lower in order to drain or the unit really does very little and although there’s an indicator light that will come on if the unit is quite full of water, it’s very rare that the light comes on (and it only does so LONG after the unit has stopped cooling the air). We have taken to wrapping a large towel around the far end of the tube to collect water that drains, but basically you must tilt the heavy unit backwards to try to drain it. This is not particularly effective but it must be done.

3. It has wheels, but it doesn’t roll easily (it’s hard to push or pull it in a straight line and the wheels are so small even getting over a low rug is difficult.

4. Moving the unit up or down a single step can be accomplished by one person but since the entire unit is made of very smooth, slippery plastic (it has handles but they’re very shallow & not helpful), it’s more safely accomplished with two people.

5. Consider that this unit, while mobile, sacrifices a good window seal. The large exhaust hose (which pumps the hot air outside) resembles a telescoping dryer hose that easily falls out of the backside of the unit and is awkward to extend evenly. The unit comes with a smallish piece of foam with a cutout hole for the hose. However, you are left with having to find some way to block the rest of whatever window you choose to put the hole into. We use a large carboard box panel and cut a hole out of, then duct-tape the box into the window opening to block out air seepage. As you can imagine, it looks pretty tacky.

We wouldn’t buy this again.
