I bought an NV+ 1GB with no drives and populated it with my own seagate 500GB 7200.10 drives, which saved me about $150 over the price of buying a 2TB unit.

Results so far are very good. Installing the drives and getting the NAS up and synchronized was easy and went just like the instructions said. I started at 9pm and by morning the unit was initialized and ready to receive files. Using the X-Raid setting the device shows 1.3TB available for storage.

I set it up to share media, documents, and software/drivers within our home network, a combination of wired and wireless-G. Other than the hours it took to move 500GB of videos/music/photos from the desktop via 100-Base T to the NV+, performance in accessing files with the wired desktop and 2 wireless laptops is very good. Home movies stream to wireless laptops without loss of frames or hesitation in playback.

The iTunes server is a nice feature and works very well with all our PCs. Another good feature is the SMTP server to email warnings and info to my cellphone-it sent me a message the first night after it completed initialization and synchronization. However, I hope I never get another message from it because it will probably mean bad news.

I successfully backed up 2 laptops and 1 desktop to the backup share, but I’m still trying to figure out how to back up the NV+ itself so I can store backups off-site.

So far a great unit. Small, attractive case, easy to set up and use.

It’s a little more expensive than other brands I’ve seen, but I’m very happy with it and didn’t mind spending a little more to get exactly what I wanted.

It works great with my Linux and Windows computers at home (and also works with Mac, although I don’t have one to test with). For Windows you map a drive through Windows Explorer, for Linux you run “mount” using NFS.

I was able to share and use the same files/directories on both operating systems without any problems. The fact it works so well with Linux was a big reason I bought this over other brands I looked at. However, note that according to its documentation, its print server only supports Windows and Mac clients. For me that’s less of an issue since I primarily use my Linux for development and can print everything on Windows.

It came ready to go out of the box, the disks were already set up for X-RAID, their proprietary RAID technology that’s basically RAID-5 but manages volume expansion so you can add/replace disks more easily. It also offers RAID 0, 1 and 5, although since it has 4 disk drive bays and drives are so cheap now, I’d recommend only using RAID 5 or X-RAID. It’s hot swappable so you can replace disks without shutting it down. If a single drive fails, you can replace it without losing any data (except RAID 0).

If you want to use RAID 0/1/5 instead of the default X-RAID, change it before you move files to the system (or back them up first), since according to their documentation changing it will erase all of the data.

It supports gigabit ethernet speeds, but my PCs don’t yet, so the transfer rate copying files to the ReadyNAS was about 3-4 MB/sec, and about 9-10 MB/sec copying from it. According to CNET’s editor review, they were able to write a 5 GB test file to it in 18 minutes, and read the file back from it in 13 minutes (the 13 min read time was the fastest of any of the NAS servers they tested).

The RAIDar software it comes with found it on the network right away. Among other things, RAIDar shows you the current RAID status, disk usage, fan speed, and the temperatures of the unit and each drive.

The web interface provides alot of control over it. One feature I really like is that you can configure it to send alerts to multiple email addresses (and text messages to your cell phone) for various conditions such as drive failures, excess temperatures, disk quotas exceeded, power failures (if UPS connected), etc. Another feature I like is an option to let the drives sleep after a configurable period of inactivity.

With the latest firmware, I was also able to use SSH to connect directly to its filesystem. Obviously you want to be careful if you do this to avoid changing/deleting system files. That would not be good.

Only a few issues so far:

- I can’t access the ReadyNAS while connected to my office’s VPN, but that’s a security “feature” of the VPN software to secure the company’s network and also to prevent IP address collisions. Just thought I should mention it in case other people have the same problem. The VPN software is configurable to disable this, but turning it off leads to other problems since my home network subnet is also used at work (they tell us to use a specific subnet at home to avoid collisions but my router doesn’t allow changing the subnet).

- The web interface uses javascript alert pop ups for every confirmation, which gets a little tiring. But I can live with it, considering how much control the web interface gives you over the ReadyNAS. Hopefully they’ll change this in a future firmware update.

- Its built-in SMTP to send the email alerts didn’t work for me; I had to provide my own email account’s SMTP settings to get it to work. Their user guide indicated that some network issues require this, although I’m not sure why mine did.

- As mentioned above, the print server doesn’t support Linux.

I haven’t used all of its features yet, but so far I really like it and am glad I went with this one.

UPDATE 10/29/08: The latest firmware updated the web interface. It doesn’t work with Firefox 3.0, but I have the IETab Firefox extension so I set it up to use Internet Explorer.

After some really bad experiences with other Network Attached Storage, I finally spent the money and got this one. It is expensive but it really does the job. I use it to back up all my documents including my photostock and I really need something I can trust. This one has real RAID, so if/when it loses a harddrive, you can re-build it. Well engineered, excellent software, and a real manual. One minor complaint, the fan may be a little too loud to use in your media room.

Bought the sds plus model w/ a 17 price bit set. Haven’t tried the drill bits but the chipping bits seem to be working well to chip brick and concrete. 2 day shipping was part of the deal and everything was right on!

Compare Prices on Samsung T220HD

I have a 20-month-old boy who loves to break things, so I have to take all my gaming consoles out fo the living room and into the study, where my PC is. So I thought it would be nice to get a LCD monitor with component input for my old consoles, as well as HDMI for potential new consoles. After lots of research I picked the T220HD, because it also comes with digital tuner. I am very happy with the choice because it is exactly what I thought it would be. it’s very versatile and display everything well, and I am especially impressed with the digital tuner which picks up all the network OTA HD broadcast using a cheap indoor HDTV antenna, when my PCI tuner card (Avermedia A180) could pick up 2 or 3 using the same antenna in the same position. It’s not perfect, however.

What’s to like:

- Component input allows connecting older devices without HDMI.

- 2 HDMI ports

- Input source button cycles through only ports that are plugged in.

- digital TV tuner is excellent.

- Build in speaker/headphone jack/audio out port. Speakers are not great, but having them means you don’t need extra adaptors to capture the audio from HDMI/component devices.

- Remote control. OSD navigation is so much easier and more intuitive with it. And this is really useful when turning the unit on/off, making this a true LCD TV.

- Has 16:9 aspect ratio option so that pictures don’t have to be stretched to full screen.

- Unit is very light, only 13 lb.

- Picture is bright and clear, no dead pixel for me.

- Screen is matte, not glossy.

What’s really annoying to me:

- Unit is light because base is mostly plastic, not very rigid.

- touch sensitive power on/off button. Everything else is tactile and on the side of the monitor, except for power. turning the unit on/off using this button usually requires several presses. Might that be that big of an issue if the unit is not so light and stand so flimsy, I have to grab the whole bottom edge when I try to turn it on this way. Good thing there’s the remote.

- My unit has quite a bit of backlight bleed at the center of top and bottom edge. Hard to see when using DVI input, but when viewing HDTV, with the black bars on top and bottom to get the correct 16:9 aspect ratio, the bleeding is obvious.

What are the missing features which I don’t care much about:

- the stand is basic, no height adjustment, no portrait mode

- no PIP

- can’t be mounted to the wall

- Cannot customize the individual RGB color tone when in DVI mode. Can only select between one of the 3 presets (warm, normal, cool).

Other nitpicks:

- monitor frame has piano finish (glossy), including the inner side which reflects what’s on screen. Kind of annoying , and maybe makes backlight bleeding seem worse than it really is.

- most of the connection ports are on the back of the unit facing back. While this makes the ports easier to see than a lot of other models that has the ports on the bottom facing down, it also makes insertion of wires, especially the component video ones, harder becasue you are pushing/applying force perpendicular to the LCD panel. You don’t want to put your other hand on the LCD screen, but if you don’t, then you really can’t get a good push.

There seems to be some confusion whether or not the T220HD can be wall mounted. Granted it does not have the VESA holes but SamsungParts has a wall mount adapter WMB1900T 19-22 VESA 100X100 bracket. Why Amazon doesn’t show this item as an accessory for the T220/T220HD I don’t know. As far as the T220HD goes it has all the bells and whistles you need the only thing i think is missing is a USB hub. This link should get you to the bracket. Wall Mount Bracket 19-22″

This TV basically blew me away at the store. I was there to buy a 26″ vizio or sharp aquos and ended up with a cheaper and much better Samsung T220HD. The picture, while smaller, was darker, clearer and crisper than the others and I felt like the better deal was this tv over the larger ones. I use this in the bedroom so the size was less of a concern but overall a great tv.

The copy and scan functions are outstanding — quick, quiet, and easy to use. Scanning to Adobe files is remarkably simple. Faxing, though, is another story. The fax wizard will not install on Vista 64 bit systems, so fax send functions are limited to what you can do manually. More frustrating, it is impossible to receive faxes with an answering machine connected. I have spent many hours speaking with technicians in India to solve the problem. They diagnose the problem being the answering machine, but changing the answering machine did not help. This was not an issue with my five year old HP Office Jet. And the 1522 is not covered by HP on-line help. So my advice is to think about your needs before buying. If you have Vista 64 bit or use this on anything other than a dedicated fax line, beware.

Please note: In order to post this review, I HAD to give this printer one star. This printer deserves NO STARS.

The HP1522nf had everything I was looking for–Fax, Scan, laser printing, feeder, PPM requirements–and what I thought was HP quality. Although we purchased it from Amazon.com on 4/17, the printer was not placed into use until 5/1 because we were still in construction mode on our business. On May 1, I spent several hours on the phone with HP tech support…in India…and I couldn’t understand most of what they said. Worse, they couldn’t understand *me.* And I speak very clearly.

I was told that the printer could not be plugged into a surge protector–has to be plugged straight into the wall, and they eventually decided that I needed to download the printer software from HP’s website to cure the fact that the printer simply would not operate after printing one page.

I uninstalled the software that I’d installed from HP’s disc. The problem here is that the uninstall doesn’t remove all of the software it’s installed. It leaves tons of junk on the computer. I reinstalled with the fresh download and the printer worked for about a week. The scan and FAX functions refused to work, but I had a business to open and didn’t have time to sit on the phone with HP tech support for hour after hour.

On May 20th, I called HP tech support and the first question I asked was why they had never checked back with me as they said they’d do. The response was that they’d closed the file as “successfully handled” because (they claimed) when tech support tried to call me back, they found my number disconnected. My number was NOT disconnected, but the number they were calling had absolutely not one digit in common with my number.

I spent two days on the phone with tech support, uninstalling and reinstalling the software over and over, coaxing the printer to please do something right, trying to understand what the HP tech support people were saying… It was MEGA-frustrating.

The problems? The printer would print once, and then turn itself off. HP absurdly placed the switch in the back (lower left side), so in order to power cycle the printer, it’s really handy if you know how to do yoga. However, power cycling it would do nothing after awhile. The printer turned itself off and stayed off.

HP tech support asked me to FAX them the receipt, which I did (before the printer finally decided to stay dead), and HP’s tech support had the gall to complain that it was too blurry to read. Having been sent with one of their printers and received on their equipment, the quality of the FAX would be HP’s problem–not mine.

The machine would not scan. Trying to run the scan software resulted in a pop-up window telling me that the scan had failed, did I want to try again. It never scanned.

The computer I installed the software on unfortunately runs Vista. I asked if this could be the problem. HP tech support thought not. However, when trying to input data into the FAX feature on the computer, I ran into a series of annoying problems. For example, inputting the business name required that I input one letter and then the HP software would spit up a yellow caution sign window with the letter and a question mark. I’d click “OK,” and then enter another letter, at which point HP software would spit up the same yellow caution sign with the new letter and a question mark. I’d click “OK”…and this is how the entire business name had to be entered! One letter at a time and no spaces. Hitting the space bar would bounce the cursor back to the beginning. I kludged that problem by inserting an underscore between words. It’s insane!

Finally HP tech support decided it was a bad printer and that they needed to replace my brand new straigh-out-of-the-box printer with a used refurbished one! That’s when I blew up. And that’s when HP lost me as a customer.

I complained vociferously. They said they’d review the issues, but replacing with a used refurbished unit was all HP policy allows.

I wrote scathing emails to HP tech support and to HP’s CEO (whose email address is on the HP website if you’re patient enough to search for it). I decided to cc Amazon.com as well.

Next morning, I received a wonderful email from Amazon telling me that due to the extenuating circumstances, they’d already shipped me a new printer and sent a label for the return of the non-functional unit. Amazon ROCKS!

Then I received a call from HP tech support telling me in pidgin English that they’d reviewed the situation and would send me a used refurbished unit. It was great fun to tell them to go pound sand.

My new printer arrived as scheduled. I spent hours on my computer–weeding through folders, uninstalling every particle of HP software I could find–looking in hidden folders (they’re in there too), as well as taking ownership of items and changing permissions in order to dump eons of the nasty buggers. I plugged the printer INTO THE WALL RECEPTICLE. I installed the software from a fresh download.

It works. It FAXes. (The first two FAXes failed, but after that it worked. I still had to enter the business name header one letter at a time, each letter followed by the annoying sign and clicking “OK.”) It scans. It prints. It doesn’t turn itself off. BUT–after reading these reviews, I have to wonder how long this “success” will hold.

I wish I’d bought any other brand printer. Brother printers seem to be garnering good reviews, but based on past experience with having to kick those suckers to print, I decided against Brother. Epson seems to be having success. Really, ANYTHING has to be better than an HP printer.

Until HP gets its act together with technically-correct software and printers that work, and more importantly–MOVES THEIR TECH SUPPORT BACK TO THE UNITED STATES–I refuse to do business with them. I’ve bought probably 10 HP printers over the past few years. Maybe more. I don’t mind spending a little time on the phone with tech support for minor issues. But in the past two years–it’s happened with every single printer with every single set-up, and it’s gotten old. So long, HP. Your printers don’t work. Your software doesn’t work. And your tech support is atrocious.

This machine is on sale for a reason: It’s an incredibly bad product from an equally bad company.

The fax from the computer feature doesn’t always dial until the dial tone switches to the “if you’d like to make a call” message. So at least half the faxes have to be reloaded.

Unfortunately the English-challenged “support” in India has no idea what that message is, so it was not until I asked for a “supervisor” did anyone understand the problem.

The suggestion was to update the firmware and drivers. I did and now I can’t install the fax functions at all.

In the middle of this, the printer flashed a “replace black toner” message and won’t print until I fork over another $79.00 for a new cartridge. The existing one is not showing any signs of needing replacement. HP has rigged the sensor to their advantage.

I have purchased mostly HP printers in the past. Of course, this will be my last.

Although I didn’t buy this unit from Amazon, I thought I should let folks know about the troubles I have had with the MT-350.

It worked for a couple months during the summer and seemed to catch mosquitoes, however it quit just before the end of the season. Since then I haven’t been able to get past the 3 blinking lights (no propane). Tried everything to fix the problem. Called Flowtron customer support several times with little satisfaction…they kept saying try something else to troubleshoot the problem.

The latest call resulted in them telling me the unit is now beyond warranty even though the unit failed before the warranty period expired. And they had the gall to tell me I could send them $175 for an “upgraded” head unit. It appears they have fixed some old problems. This is not what I call customer service especially after spending $400 to purchase the unit in the first place.

Bottom line…unit doesn’t work and customer service doesn’t either! I would say avoid the Flowtron PowerTrap MT-350!

This unit worked for one summer, I stored it indoors and set it up the next spring. It refused to work so I cleaned the lines with a CO2 cartridge. That didn’t work so I sent it to the manufacturer. They sent back a rebuilt unit that worked for one day. It seems the lines get clogged and the unit must be dissassembled and cleaned. This appears to be a design flaw with all of these types of mosquito catchers.

Worked for 1 season, then just stopped catching mosquitoes.

Not sure why, was cleaned and stored indoors over the winter, added a brand new propane tank, new attractant, and recleaned in spring.

These knives are the best! They cut and handle better than more expensive Forged knives. Cooks Illustrated always talks about Victorinox cutlery- and now I know why. These are the same people that make RH Forschner professional knives and swiss army pocketknives.

I am a do-it-yourselfer who decided to put hardwood flooring in the living and dining rooms. Point one, I way underestimated how long it would take. I rented an air compressor and air assisted nailer from Home Depot for a total of $95 for one day and was disappointed in how little progress I made (it goes slower than you think).

For the price of renting a nailer for one day this side nailer is yours to keep forever, which means take as long as you want and don’t worry about getting back to the rental store on time. Generally speaking a factory reconditioned unit is given a good quality check before it is released and I had only one problem with this tool and it was one I caused myself by double nailing in the same hole that caused a nail to jam in the chute. The plate and spring mechanism was easily taken apart, jam cleared and back to work. The jamming was my fault. The gun works smoothly, it comes with a hammer. There was one small nick on the one I received indicating it was previously used but at the price comparison of recon vs. new that was not an issue. Even if you are not sure what you are going to do with a side nailer in your tool collection after you have finished the flooring job, the price of buying factory recon vs. rental makes it worth while.

This item looked and performed like a brand new one. We had no problems using it. The metal side of the mallet is angled so that it is easy to tap the board into place without damaging the face. Hitting the plunger both drives a cleat and snugs the board up to the previous row. Even slightly curved boards straighten up without prying if you use a firm swing.

We installed about 1100 square foot of 3/4″ cypress tongue and groove on our floor. This item was indispensable. We used cleats that we picked up at lowes for about $15 a box. We used 3 1/2 boxes of FLN200 qty 1000, placing a cleat at least every 8″.

If you pull out the cleat feeder bar at the back of the tool, you an use the tool on the second row from the starting wall. (5.25 inch boards) The cleats are heavy enough to feed themselves. Because of the space needed to swing the mallet, I had to use a regular hammer and nails starting at the 2nd to last row.

The tool is symmetrical, so it works just as easily for lefties.

It was a complete waste of money for me. I couldn’t drive a single nail fully using this nailer. No matter how hard I hit with the mallet, it never sets the nail in completely.

After trying it for couple of hours, decided to give up. I ended up renting a pneumatic nailer and compressor from the local rental place and that worked like a charm and was able to finish my floor installation very quickly.

I thought I was getting a bargain, but ended up with a $100 tool which doesn’t work. I don’t think I can return it, since it is past 30 days period.

Update (10/10): Customer service contacted me and let return the tool for full refund(even though it is past 30 days). Very impressed with the customer service quality.

Overall quality is impressive. I especially like the cam miter lock, miter scale quality, detent over-ride, vernier miter adjustment, blade brake, light weight, and powerful 15A motor. The included blade (40 tooth) is surprisingly good. The only con I found was the bevel pointer/bevel scale setup. The “point” doesn’t line up with the bevel degree marker area by about 1/4 to 3/8’s half inch. It makes you guess the degree of bevel + or – 3 degrees. The manual says to set the top edge of the bevel pointer as the read point for accuracy. The only problem is that the top edge of the bevel pointer is not on the same plane as the bevel scale, leaving you without a good point to read the bevel. This is a 10 cent part, which is not in keeping with the quality and features of the rest of the saw. Good luck and Merry Christmas. 12/25/07

Bought the saw in Jan-08 and have been using it for a major moulding project. I’ve borrowed a Craftsman “Professional” compound miter saw in the past and learned what I would look for if I ever purchased this type of saw. When you buy this saw, I feel you get higher quality things you need, not a feature laden saw with mediocre components. You’ll appreciate the tall fence, the blade guard, a dust bag that actually catches sawdust, a high quality miter table/gauge without stickers, a 15 amp motor, and a stout and sturdy frame. The miter lock is so much nicer than a screw type, and the detent override comes in handy for those angles close but not quite at the standard angles.

The saw I used in the past would collect sawdust between the swiveling miter table and the miter gauge, eventually making it difficult to adjust your angle, eventually forcing you to take the table apart for cleaning. I’m very impressed by how smoothly this table adjusts from side to side.

For trim work, I have found you just don’t need to buy a saw with lasers and clamps and whatever else. Just buy the right saw the first time, a sturdy one like the DW713.

I use this on the job a lot as a pro trim carpenter. I work for myself so I have to buy tools that will last and pay for themselves many times over before having to be replaced. This one is no exception and I am very pleased with it.

I also own a 12 inch double bevel Dewalt and that is a great saw too. I user the ten inch one for most of the trim in normal house. The twleve inch is better for crown and stair work.

This saw has adequate power and does not bog down unless you really try to rush it which is a bad idea to start with. I cut plenty of hardwood with it and have had no problems.

The saw is very accurate, mine was perfect out of the box.

You should add the laser and a better blade if you want to use this to it’s full potential. Well for trim anyway, the blade on it is ok for general use.

I do precision work and this saw does good for me (With a better blade than comes on it). I would reccomend it to anyone looking for a good ten inch saw.

I like the dewalt miter saw stand too, it works well with this and all dewalt saws.

I reccomend this as a pro carpenter, it is a good tool.

Sanders attended high school in Fort Myers, Florida at North Fort Myers High School. During his time at the school he lettered in several sports including football, baseball, and basketball. He made the All situation team for each of these sports.

After high school Sanders decided to retract his game to Florida spot University. Again, he competed at three sports; this time concentrating on football, baseball, and track. From his freshman year it was sure that he was going to excel at all of these sports. But all in all, his best sport was football. In 1987 and 1988 he made the All American team, and he finished his career with 14 interceptions.

Sanders was drafted by the Atlanta Falcons with the 5th hold in the first round of the 1989 NFL Draft. During his time in the NFL he was named to the Pro Bowl team eight times, and won the Defensive Player of the Year award in 1994. He also won two smart Bowl rings while playing in the league.

Deion Sanders was one of the most exhilarating players to ever position foot on a football field. To go along with this he was a vast all around athlete, and had a strong will to find. With all of this being said, it is worthy to say that Sanders will always be remembered for his many athletic accomplishments.

As far as fantasy is concerned, Brady has always been a solid tier 2 passer who owners could depend on week in and week out to do up solid all around numbers. The fact that he has made every inaugurate since replacing Drew Bledsoe four seasons ago gives Brady even more value due to the fact you never have to grief about injuries at a very injury-prone station. stammer that to Donovan McNabb owners how vital that is. Now with all of the additions to the passing game, view for Brady to have a monster season in the TD and yardage department. Usually hovering between the 24-28 TD imprint, seek information from Tom to stand more than a gracious chance of having his first 30 TD season. A 4,000 yard passing total is a given.

So when drafting a quarterback in your 2007 draft, it is suggested here that you let other owners grab Peyton Manning, Carson Palmer, and Drew Brees, while you wait until the third round to draft Brady. He may not be the most flashiest QB in the league, but Brady will establish up numbers to rival anyone throwing a football in the 2007 campaign.

STOCK WATCH: RISINGThe Keys To Perfect Execution In Youth Football

The keys to immense execution in youth football are not what many youth football coaches reflect they are In my understanding the keys to substantial execution is: Limiting the size of your playbook to a few integrated play series.

Attention to detail in the Offensive Line, with simple place blocking rules. Offensive and Defensive intention is appropriate for the age and experience group of players as well as the practice time allowed. Limiting time wasting things that provide dinky football serve like agilities and lots of cals. Focus on perfect fundamentals. vulgar attention paid to priortizing practices. Massive amounts of “fit and freeze” reps rather than all out scrimmaging.

Here are a few short video clips of some of my teams in action, this will give you an thought of the type of execution that is possible in youth football if the above are paid terminate attention to. Please designate the Google Video is not the same quality as what you win on the DVD, the DVDs are considerable better quality. The 2006 shots were filmed and edited by a local TV cameraman.

These clips are of my 2006 Team age 8-10. What you behold are some shots of our first 4 League Games. This team went 11-1, losing the Title Game in Overtime to the Superbowl Champions. We averaged about 40 points per game and scored 3 TDs in the first quarter of 9 games. We had 13 different players secure TDs during the season. This is a rural “non-select” team.

brand the execution of the spinner football plays, considered by most to be the most counterfeit series in football. In many of these plays you spy the defenders running past or even away from the ballcarriers, something you fair don’t behold in other youth football offenses.

Other video footbage of several of my teams expose varying levels of competence, but all in all dazzling executuon. The second clip teams went a combined 34-0. The 2003 team was age 8-10, a “bewitch” team from Inner-City Omaha, they were very tall and lickety-split, the first couple of clips are of them. We went 11-0 and were place Champions. We averaged 41 ppg and scored on every possession of every game we played. The 2004 team is an all rookie team, of 8-10 year olds with all 8 year olds starting in the backfield. We had unbiased one player above 100 lbs and finished 11-0 playing a “B” schedule. We averaged about 30 ppg. The 2005 team is an age 8-10 team, rural, non-select and second year group. We finished 12-0 and not only won our league but beat the best “bewitch” teams in the spot to claim a spot Title. We averaged lawful at 40 ppg.
