I bought the first season DVD set and have been thoroughly enjoying the show. The final bikes look fantastic and really give you the urge to get a custom chopper of your own. When you watch the 9/11 Fire Fighters tribute bike being put together, and see how everyone gets so personally involved, you can’t help but feel a bit moved by the unveiling.

Two minor gripes with the series.

The first is that all you really see of bike building is Paul Jr fabricating bits and pieces from sheet metal and bolting them to the bike. Don’t get me wrong, the guy’s vision is amazing, but they send out for most things including painting and custom framework. You get to see snapshots of an engine being lifted into the frame, or a wheel having the axle put through it, but if you are expecting pointers on how to really put a custom chopper together (installing engine, electricals, etc) then you will need to look elsewhere.

The other thing is the famous/infamous Paul Sr V’s Paul Jr shouting matches that take up a good 1/4 of each episode. You have to real feel for the other guys in the shop as it must be embarrassing as hell. If you enjoy watching people screaming at each other in a dysfunctional fashion then you will enjoy it. For me when they start going at it I just hit fast forward on the remote, once the arms stop waving around I resume playback and enjoy see the bike taking shape.

All in all for a “reality show” it is a very enjoyable series and I will be buying Series 2 very soon.

This quiet British film starring two of Britain’s most acclaimed actresses, Dames Maggie Smith and Judi Dench, is unabashedly a vehicle for these two leading ladies. Janet (Smith) and Ursula (Dench) are two unmarried sisters living on the coast. When one morning after a storm they discover an unconscious young man (Daniel Bruhl) on the rocky shore, their daily rhythms change as each woman develops a crush on the helpless man. Each vies for his complete attention. When Janet is able to finally communicate with Andrea in German (he is Polish), Ursula becomes consumed with jealousy and compensates by pampering him. Both, however, are pushed aside as it turns out that Andrea is a virtuoso violinist (music played by Joshua Bell), and the entire town in drawn to him. Even worse for the sisters, a beautiful visitor, Olga, discovers him as well, drawing him away from Janet and Ursula, into her own world.

Judi Dench is given more to work with than her co-star, and so comes across as the more complicated woman, but Maggie Smith turns in a fine, reserved performance as the more hard-edged sister. Daniel Bruhl is a little awkward in his role; while Natascha McElrone turn in a more memorable performance, though hardly as commanding as Dench and Smith. The cinematography lends affection to the English countryside and coast, and it highlights the isolation of the small town.

This film is slow-moving and carefully articulated, without much happening beyond what is revealed in the actresses’ faces. Without Dench and Smith, it would have no appeal, and so should be seen more for the two stars than for the film itself. 3+ stars.

English actor Charles Dance (’Last Action Hero’) made his debut as director in ‘Ladies in Lavender’ based on a short story by William J. Lock. The film features reliable veterans like Judi Dench, Maggie Smith, Miriam Margolyes, David Warner, plus Natascha McElhone (’Ronin’), and Daniel Bruhl (’Goodbye Lenin”).

The story, set in 1936 in a seaside village in Cornwall, is a simple one. A young handsome man named Andrea (Bruhl) is found on the shore, uncounscious, with his ankle broken. Andrea, who cannot speak English, is nursed by two old ladies of the village, Ursula (Dench) and Janet (Smith), and soon he recovers his health, picking up some English words while in bed. Also, Andrea starts to live with the spinsters (and the housemaid Margolyes who teaches him how to peel the ‘potatoes’), and brightens the life of the ladies, especially that of Ursula, to whom Janet refers as very ‘naive.’

Later, Andrea turns out a gifted violinist, and Olga, young traveller from the city, also finds his talent (Olga speaks fluent German). And a bit incredibly, I think, but Olga happens to be a sister of one famous violist, who happens to be in London just for one day. And Olga says this is a great chance that he cannot lose.

The weak and implausible story is helped by the presence of the two great actors Dench and Smith. It is their acting, or subtle expressions of voice and face that really tell the story, and Charles Dance should be very thankful for their excellent jobs (I thought, actually, his direction is just so-so, with too many unnecessary slow motions and even an embarrasing ‘dream sequence’ of Ursula that had almost killed the film).

The film’s strength lies in the veterans’ acting, particularly that of Dench, whose character Ursula is the most memorable one. It is clear that she is in love, and equally clear that she knows she is not allowed to express her feelings even before Janet, who somehow senses the truths behind the embarrassed expressions of Ursula. At the same time, however, this could be the weakest (or most incredible) part of the film — of course, old ladies fall in love, and why not? — but Judi Dench and Daniel Bruhl? And in the original, Ursula is in her 40s while Judi Dench was born in 1934.

Another problem is (so I found), Daniel Bruhl, or his character Andrea, who lacks the mystery, or the dark side, which he should have, if he really comes from where he claims (remember, it’s 1936, only three years before WW2). Andrea’s character needs more complexity. After all, who is he? Why wants to go to America? He doesn’t talk about them — that’s fine — but no one asks (except David Warner’s doctor), which is too strange.

‘Ladies in Lavender’ is a good film about the two ladies in title, and the acting from the principal players is excellent. Watch for Judi Dench and Maggie Smith, and you will be greatly moved by them, or their characters.

I think it’s safe to say that Hairspray is a unique motion picture. The film, while providing nonstop fun and laughs throughout, also manages to not only confront but to roll right over prejudice in several of its nefarious guises. I was a teenager when this film came out, and sadly, it was the death of Divine (just before the movie was released) that made me aware of this film. I don’t know if that publicity helped or hurt ticket sales – Divine, for those who have never heard of him, was famous for playing female roles, and Hairspray had begun to rejuvenate his whole career. As for the film, it’s extremely campy in the best of ways, overflowing with great singing and dancing from the early 1960s, and it is the type of film that makes you feel good after you watch it.

Ricki Lake plays Tracy Turnblad, a big, bold, and beautiful teenager who dreams of dancing on the exceedingly popular Corny Collins dance show. Her mother, played by Divine, isn’t too crazy about modern music and dancing – until Tracy auditions and gets a spot on the show. Strutting her stuff in front of the cameras, she quickly becomes Baltimore’s newest sensation. This does not sit well with Amber von Tussle (Colleen Fitzpatrick), as Tracy steals her man and then threatens to win the coveted title of Miss Auto Show 1963. Tracy is overweight, but she likes herself just as she is and easily dismisses the fat jokes thrown her way early on. The big issue in this film, though, is segregation. Tracy and her best friend Penny Pingleton (Joann Havrilla) soon become friends with some of the black kids in town and begin working toward integrating the Corny Collins show. Collins is all for the idea himself, as currently the Negro show runs only once each month under the controls of sassy Motormouth Mabel (Ruth Brown). The station manager will not hear of integration, though, and Penny’s mother is aghast to find out that her daughter is in love with an African-American. This is 1962, of course. The whole segregation issue becomes the basic foundation of the movie as it dances its way to the end, making Hairspray a wonderfully entertaining film with a serious message behind it.

The film is blessed with many interesting cast members. Divine plays not only Mrs. Turnblad but also the station manager, Jerry Stiller plays Mr. Turnblad, Sonny Bono and Debbie Harry (and Debbie Harry’s increasingly interesting hair) come together to play Amber von Tussle’s parents, and Ric Ocasek and Pia Zadora show up as Beatniks in a strange little cameo appearance. Of course, Ricki Lake pretty much steals the show as the big girl with big dreams, although I found Joann Havrilla’s performance as Penny Pingleton quite captivating in a weird sort of way.

It is very difficult to describe Hairspray; you pretty much have to watch it to get a true feel for its entertainment assets and social commentary underpinnings. It does have its silly moments, but this is not entertainment for the sake of entertainment, nor is this a film you will soon forget after watching it.

Hairspray is one of John Waters’ more mainstream movies in that it deals with the themes of racial tensions leading up to an integrated Baltimore, teen angst and first true loves, and those incredible dances and dance shows on TV from the late 1950s into the 1960s. Of course, with Hairspray being a John Waters movie, characters become grossly exaggerated for a humorous effect; you get a very funny, playful and harmless cast of both young and older people in Baltimore facing changing times as they try to live their lives as best they can.

Tracy Turnblad (Ricki Lake) is an overweight teenage girl who can shake off jokes about her weight with a type of self-confidence that is truly remarkable. Tracy and her friend Penny Pingleton (Joann Havrilla) enjoy watching and dancing along to The Corny Collins TV Show in Tracy’s living room at home; and one day Tracy sets her mind to trying out for the show with some support from her friend Penny. When Tracy does try out on the Corny Collins TV dance show for dancing teenagers, she wins a spot on the council almost immediately! This upsets the stuck up, racist reigning queen Amber von Tussle and her parents (Sonny Bono and Debbie Harry) who make their living running Tilted Acres, a segregated theme park in Baltimore. As Tracy’s star rises she also charms the heart of Amber’s boyfriend, Link Larkin (Michael St. Gerard). Of course, this means war. Amber and her parents must–I mean, must–find a way to disgrace Tracy so that Amber can remain the star of the show and ultimately win the highly coveted 1963 Miss Auto Show award. Of course, as this all happens, Hairspray pokes fun at the obsession some people had with getting their hair to be as high and as perfect looking as they thought it could or should be.

The movie moves along at an even pace and the action keeps your attention. Look for John Waters himself as the psychiatrist hired by Penny’s parents when they find out she has a black boyfriend named Seaweed. Divine turns in quite a performance as both Tracy Turnblad’s mother and Arvin Hodgepile, the TV studio owner who could can The Corny Collins Show if it becomes integrated against his will. As if that weren’t enough, Ruth Brown plays the role of Motormouth Maybelle, a female record store owner who is a prominent integrationist in Baltimore and who also sometimes judges on The Corny Collins Show.

Overall, the acting exceeds my expectations for a John Waters flick; and the choreography shines in great scenes where large crowds must move about. I won’t give away the plot; but if you want to see excellent choreography look not at just the complicated dance scenes they had to manage but also the race riot scene near the Tilted Acres segregated amusement park.

The cinematography works well; and each character is developed nicely as the movie goes along. The casting is flawless, too.

Hairspray earns its keep quite well; it will hold your undivided attention as you howl with laughter all the way through! The DVD also features commentary by John Waters and Ricki Lake.

When it comes down to it, Hairspray manages to do be funny, hold your attention and explore rather serious issues concerning racial tensions, segregation, integration and the first true love each teen inevitably experiences–all at the same time and all in the same movie. That’s quite a feat; and I recommend this film for fans of John Waters movies but also for people who enjoy comedies that involve social commentary. Great!

“Vantage Point” is a good action drama that you can predict pretty well from the trailer. It is based on a concept that has been done many times before, that of telling the same story from multiple points of view. Fans of “24″ will get a strong sense of déjà vu 24 – Season 1 (Slim – Pack). Yet the core story is interesting. The action sequences and great camera work make this a movie worth watching. Good acting and a strong finish help to overcome some loose ends and production errors.

The President of the United States (William Hurt), or POTUS as referred to by the secret service, is the target of a group of terrorists whose objectives are never revealed to us. While overseas to attend an anti-terrorism summit in Spain, he is shot. Or is he?

Dennis Quaid and Mathew Fox (of “Lost” fame Lost – The Complete First Season) play secret service agents there to protect the President. After multiple attacks occur after the president is shot, they scramble to try to respond and find the shooter. It is very difficult to tell which attacks are meant to kill and which are meant to divert attention away from the villains.

Quaid takes advantage of Forest Whitaker’s camcorder film and the media’s tapes to piece together the story. As each of the characters is swung into action, we get to see their individual struggles to cope with chaos and how their stories are interconnected.

Perhaps in an homage to “24,” after each character’s scene finishes it ‘rewinds’ to the beginning to give us the next character’s ‘vantage point.’ This gets old fast. After a while, these vantage points seem to disintegrate into one another and overlap more and more. In fact, this is one story where the effect seems to have taken away from the story.

The action sequences are very strong, and even though there’s a lot of hand held camera work they get enough steady shots to make the chase scenes watchable. Most notable is a car chase scene that is bound to draw comparisons to Ronin Ronin, The Bourne Identity The Bourne Identity (Widescreen Extended Edition), The Italian Job The Italian Job (Special Collector’s Edition) and other recent car chase movies. Putting together a sequence like that is very difficult, and I can’t wait for the DVD to see how they did it. What can I say, I’m a sucker for a good car chase.

The pacing of the movie is good and especially improves once we get to the last few vantage points. The score is excellent and blends well with the action sequences. We are purposely left without reasons why this group is after the president.

There are some technical things that are off in the movie. Anybody who has ever been to Spain will get that uneasy feeling. Once you see the Mexican extras and hear them speak a very Central American Spanish it becomes clear they are in Mexico, not Spain. They try to use a few Spanish actors, but it’s not enough to feel like Spain.

Some parts of the dialogue seem overly preachy. Still, this movie does effectively portray how difficult security planning is in a world where government security tactics are public knowledge. The story probably would have been more profound and meaningful with a traditional plot-line, which it turns into at the end anyway.

This movie is worth watching and improves a lot towards the end. You just have to get past several very annoying rewind sequences and plenty of early repetition.

Vantage Point is an ingenious action thriller surrounding the attempted assasination of the U.S. President attending an international conference in Spain. The movie is actually ‘about” 15 minutes but is seen from the “vantage point’ (sorry) of about six different people. Each perspective presents a tad more about the swirling espionage associated with the conference until you realize that nothing is what you thought it was (AT ALL) in the beginning.

Perhaps I am not sophisticated enough to dwell on the supposed GLARING shortcomings of the film. I suspect some “critics” are conditioned/programmed to be oh so discerning that they can’t see the forest for the trees – this was a thrilling, action-packed, and rather clever way of looking at an intense incident and is an excellent example of the age-old adage that truth is relative. Six people can look at exactly the same thing and see six different things.

Fun movie. Great action flick. I indeed recommend.

Cary Grant is charming as always,and his then wife, Betsy Drake is just a delight! The chemistry between them oozes off the screen, they are wonderful as is the supporting cast of adorable child actors…some you will recognize and others you may not, but they are all terrific!

Based on the autobiography by George and Anna Rose, this is a heart warming film that you will never forget”!

This has always been a favorite of mine, but it was not on TV in more than 20 years and never released on VHS, so I always thought I was out of luck- Well aren’t the movie buffs out there lucky to have the Warner Brothers Archives collection. WB has opened their film vaults and made over 100 long lost films available on DVD as a ‘made to order’ product. You purchase the DVD or your choice and they produce the DVD at that time. Nothing will be mass produced, so it is not at all likely that you will ever see a title like this in a retail store.

This is a great DVD with outstanding quality. I had never seen this movie before buying the DVD but it is very enjoyable and Cary Grant is just great. Highly Recommend!

I purchased these online and got them less than a week. I am thrilled with this purchase. The design goes well with both contemporary & traditional decor. The chaises are solid and appear to be well built. * The cushions, although made in a stain-getting off-white, are comfortable enough. There are 2 matching-fabric covered buttons on the front of the cushion for what I can only assume was for looks.

Before buying this item, I looked everywhere trying to get the dimensions of the cushions to get quotes on getting new ones. I didn’t find them online anywhere, but now that I have these, here are the measurements in case anyone needs them:

* The cushion itself is approx 3″ thick.

* The cushion is in 2 parts – one for the seat back and one that is the seat bottom (where your legs go) and are connected with a piece of flat fabric.

* The SEAT BACK cushion measures: 25″ wide x 28″ long.

* The SEAT BOTTOM cushion measures: 27.5″ wide x 46″ long with a 1″ notch 10″ from the top of seat bottom (to accommodate the arms).

I got prices to replace the cushion in a more user-friendly color of sunbrella fabric and got prices from $200 – $260 per chaise. I have ultimately abandoned this idea and have purchased terry cloth chaise cushion covers from Pottery Barn for less + the covers are washable!

We ordered four of these chaise lounges for our pool. They are very nice, but the fabric gets dirty very fast. Also, the buttons on the cushons come off very easily. You’ll have to take the cushons inside if it rains, because they get wet and stay wet.

Overall, nice chairs, very sturdy frames, but so-so cushons. Replacement cushons are VERY expensive.

Beautiful and sturdy chaise lounge. Appears to be made very well and is very comfortable. Well worth the price!

i have a T115 and i love it. i had an ACER aspire One with the Atom N270 processor and the battery only lasted for about 3 hours. (half way from Atlanta to LAX which was unacceptable.) as i make 6+ hour flights all the time i needed something with the battery power to get it done. The T115 really meets that need. the battery lasts at least 8.5 hours each time i have used it until it was drained and the ergonomics of the 11.6″ form factor are almost the same as my full sized laptop. (my ACER was the 8.9″ 1024×600 screen res was trying at times…) i upgraded mine to 4 GB or ram it was straightforward and only cost $30.00. my T115 came with a copy of Windows 7 home premium installed however i was not able to use all of the ram i installed because it was 32bit so i upgraded to 64bit. the windows 7 key from the bottom of my laptop worked fine for 64bit and all of the Toshiba software that was pre-installed on the computer has 64 bit versions available on the Toshiba website. also my system has a higher windows experience score now that i am running 64bit i now get a 3.2 windows score instead of the 2.9 i had when running 32bit. all in all this will make a great new companion for me as i travel and do presentations. one gripe, the finish is super shiny and fingerprints and scratches will be a serious problem. order a neoprene sleeve for it as soon as you can. also as i travel quite a bit it would have been nice if it was a bit more rugged but at the price point it is sold at one cannot expect the laptop to be made of metal like more expensive ultralights in the category.

I picked up my Bosch 1677M a few years back with some birthday money, so now a few years later I’ve had a chance to use it a lot. I own several wormdrived saws (Skil, Rigid, and Bosch) but I always seem to use my Bosch 1677M the most. It’s 15 amps, I like the magnesium shoe plate, and it sounds and feels very smooth when your are making your cuts. I made myself a 4 foot cutting guide specificly for this saw, so I can always make straight cuts on sheet goods. The saw exudes quality. I had a contractor I hired at my condo in SoCal replacing a huge beam on my balcony. His circular saw quit on him, so I let him borrow my Bosch 1677M to make some of his cuts. He loved it, and said he may buy himself one! The saw came standard with the rafter hook(nice), and has turned out to be what I would expect from Bosch, a GREAT saw. I use a Freud 24T framing blade for 2x lumber and a Freud 40T blade for my sheet goods. Use good blades, and change the oil ocassionally, and it should last a lifetime. It just one of those tools that every time I use it, it makes me happy. I’m so glad I bought it. Very highly recommended.

I have had my unit for about two weeks now and have been testing it out on all my local trips to make sure it works and does not send me in the wrong direction locally, so I know I can depend on it when I have no idea where I am going. It has been great and has guided me to every point without incident. The voice prompts are very clear. The night mode is excellent and the unit is very easy to see. The interface is extremely user friendly, my 9 year old insists on typing in all our addresses and she has already mastered it. The POI’s are also very cool. It has found every restaurant or drug store I have searched for. The one complaint I have is the outdated map and that is not really the units fault. If you call magellan within 30 days of receipt and jump through a few hoops (provide proof of purchase and pay $10 shipping) you get an updated map. Overall excellent unit so far..

From the fastest routing mode, the software installed in this GPS was taking us on local roads with congested traffic instead of keeping us freeways. Fortunately about a month after I bought it, Magellan posted firmware that corrected the problem.

The software on the Magellan 1430 is a bit curious, to say the least: Our subdivision, which has been in existence for over 3 years, shows up on their map data, but NOT in the address database. We can’t even enter our ‘home’ address as a starting point, because it doesn’t recognize our street as being in existence, even though it shows it clearly on the map portion of the device! What the heck?!?!?

It would be much easier to use if I could actually enter my home address as a starting location; other than that, on the “pro” side, it talks to you, so you don’t have to try and read a screen while driving (yikes!!)

I REALLY hope Magellan gets their software act together soon! If/when they do, this unit would be great, until then its kind of a waste of cash. I would recommend going with Garmon until Magellan can properly synchronize the different types of data information so this unit is actualy usable. What good is having great, up-to-the-minute maps if you can’t enter the addresses that correspond with the points on those maps?!?!?

I purchased this unit to complement a Samsung LN52a550 HDTV. Didn’t feel there was enough sound from the unit to complement the samsungs outstanding video. Shopped for reasonably priced HTIB units and decided (despite cautions that most didn’t perform) to give this unit a try. In my wildest expectations I never thought this unit would perform up to its marketing description. Placed in a den of that is approx. 15 x 25 and playing a Dolby DVD, it placed me in a cinema that provides sound effects that truly astounded. I’ll qualify this by saying that I’m a audio neophyte but for this sound at this amount of money I am truly impressed.

Be aware that this Sony unit is being used with a Samsung HDTV and consequently the transition between DVD usage & HDTV usage (must change input source) is a bit bothersome. I found that in order to obtain full surround sound from the unit when receiving audio only from you TV (not from the DVD) you must purchase a digital optical cable.

Hope I haven’t misled any one but if you select this unit I don’t believe you’ll be disappointed.

This Home theater system is great. The wireless system is nearly perfect, so far only a couple of weird click noises, but I have been using this 24/7 and it has worked beautifully. The design is really elegant for the price. Before getting this system I tried a Panasonic SC-PT660 5 DVD Home Theater System, the Sony BRAVIA DAV-HDX587WC 5.1 Channel Theater System and the Sony HSS360 component system. And this system beats all of them by a mile. Highly Recommended.

Got this system a couple days ago, and it just blows me away. The sound is amazing, the sub really kicks out deep bass, its looks great and the picture is crystal clear also. The rear wireless has been flawless, microwave, cordles phone does not interfere with it at all. I have this system in a medium room and sounds wonderful. Has a 5 dvd/cd changer, am/fm tuner, ipod cradle included, input in front for headphones and mp3 player, hdmi, component, composite video out and coaxil and optical input also.The romote is not universal but works only for Sony Bravia lcd’s only. For the price, i recommend this unit to everyone.
